We are implementing some changes slowly.  You may notice something new in the lobby or something as simple a Master Aaron's office now has chairs for those that wish to talk privately about programs, questions, concerns or even complaints!  We will using attendance cards soon.  To stay aligned with the requirements of our Grandmasters and the Federation, respectively, it is necessary to track class attendance for belt promotions.  Every stripe is 8 classes minimum with a total of 36 classes for every full color belt promotion.  Those that are hit and miss with attendance will see slower progress towards their goal of black belt!  If you miss class due to school or family function, illness or another excused absence, please contact Master Aaron to set up a FREE private lesson so that you can maintain proper progress with our programs and your class.
There will be a few other changes slowly introduced over the summer.  We are excited to bring the studio to a whole new level with improved communication with parents and students, improved training and programs plus AWESOME SEMINARS and SPECIAL EVENTS in the coming months!

Final reminder!  Your membership rate is guaranteed as long as you remain an active member.  If you cancel, at any time, then return, your rate will be the current rate.  We have several loyal members since our early days that enjoy a membership fee from when they signed up in 2008!  Remember, once you join, your membership rate is guaranteed as long as you ARE a member.  We will never increase your rate!  Please do not lose your guaranteed rate by "dropping" for a month if you are only going to be gone a week or two at best.  It is far better to schedule FREE private lessons and keep your guaranteed rate!

Hello everyone!

Our 2015 tournament was HUGE success!  We raised over $125 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in honor of Justin L. We will host our annual tournament again on Saturday April 23, 2016!

Speaking of tournaments!  Sensei Jeff Underwood is hosting his 1st annual Open Championship on Saturday October 3rd, 2015 in Burlington, IA.  Registration will begin soon!  I hope that everyone who wants to compete again, will!  If you haven't competed at a tournament yet, this will be a great event geared towards beginners!  Questions?  Please contact us or visit www.martialartstournaments.org for more info!

Reminder that there are no Black Belt Club or Ground Survival Classes on Saturday May 2nd.  Master Aaron and several other students are attending official International Combat Hapkido Federation training with Grandmaster in Joliet.

Summer is coming soon and we will switch to summer uniforms beginning May 11th.  All GAMA students may wear an official GAMA or ICHF shirt with their belt and pants.  We will not allow non school shirts to be worn during classes!  If you do not have a school shirt, please purchase one and support the school!

Due to lack of attendance, YOGA  has been removed from the current schedule. We hope to offer it again.  If you were interested and were not able to attend, please provide us with feedback on what days and times work best with your schedule.  We thank those that took advantage of this program and wish to thank Mrs. Leahy for providing such fantastic instruction.

With yoga being removed from the current schedule, we will be introducing a new and updated training schedule for our students.  Summer can make schedules very difficult and we want to insure all our current students can stay dedicated to our program as they work towards their black belts.  We will release the new schedule on Monday May 4th online and copies for home will be available at the studio.

We want to thank WGIL radio and WGIL morning host Tom Meredith for having Master Aaron on recently to talk about the 2015 GAMA Open Championship Tournament and the very important topic of bullying!  We will post the audio of that interview soon!

We wish to invite all GAMA students and their families to our Black Belt Awards ceremony on Saturday March 28th from 2-4pm at the beautiful Kensington Ballroom, in downtown Galesburg!  We will award Ms. Eloise Greene her 2nd poom, Mr. David Lapan-Islas his 2nd poom, Mr. Cris Sneddon, Ms. Tamara Sneddon, Mr. Anthony Sneddon and Mr. Adrian Wallace all 1st poom, respectively.  Master Aaron will also be presenting several certificates of appointment and making several important announcements.  We look forward to everyone's support.

Don't forget to mark your calendars to attend the GAMA Open Championship Tournament on Saturday April 25th at Carl Sandburg College's John M. Hello everyone!

February has been a challenging month both personally and professionally.  I can not say thank you enough to all of our students, parents, families and friends for your support.  I deeply appreciate everyone of you.  Your calls, messages and cards were full of encouragement and I sure needed it.  I miss my dad. He helped me start the Galesburg Academy of Martial Arts and I'm now trying to figure out how to navigate life and this business without him.  I appreciate your patience.

We do have some happy news!

1.  The youth black belt presentation ceremony will be held on Saturday March 28th from 2-4pm at the Kensington Ballroom, 311 East Simmons Street, Galesburg IL.  All recent Kukkiwon poom applicants are invited to attend so that they may formally receive their Kukkiwon poom (jr black belt) certificate, ID card and belt personally from Master Aaron.  Drinks will be provided.  This is our way to show appreciate to all the parents and students who recently successfully tested for their Kukkiwon Taekwondo black belt.  Please take pictures and video at the ceremony!  This will be a memorable event!  We hope that all GAMA families and students will attend.  If you have any questions about this event please call or message 309-299-5845.

2.  The 2nd annual GAMA Open Championship Tournament is FAST approaching!  We need everyone to support this event!  Due to overwhelming response last year we were forced to move to a much larger, more appropriate location!  This year on Saturday April 25th we will hold the tournament at John M. Lewis Gym at Carl Sandburg College!  We will need volunteers and of course encourage all students to participate in this event!

The 2015 tournament will establish the Kyleb Clevenger Memorial Scholarship, in honor of Master Kevin and Kathy Clevenger's son.  Master Clevenger has been Master Aaron's primary instructor and mentor since 1988.

We will also contribute a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in memory of Justin Lindstrom, the son of Galva Shaolin Kung Fu instructor and owner Jason Lindstrom, who passed away in 2014.

http://galesburgmartialarts.com/2015-tournament.html

In closing, there will be some changes in 2015.  I need to make some personal changes.  I need to make some professional changes.  Our black belt requirements will change.  Our expectations for our students, instructors, black belt candidates and for our black belts will rise. We do not train to quit.  We train to learn how not to quit.

Very sincerely,

Master Aaron Wayne-Duke
